Why the Camino? What is it? Where is it? Who is it?
The pilgrimage route to Santiago De Compostela, that we are walking is known as the Camino Frances. The Way, is the route that the faithful followed to see the remains of one of the apostles, James the Greater. A fisherman’s son and the older brother to John the Evangelist. After Christ was crucified, a story is told that James was instructed to mission in Spain. After he spent 7 years without much success he returned to Judaea, where he was put to death by Herod Agrippa, being the first of Jesus’s apostles to be martyred.
It begins in Roncesvalles, France and heads west across the northern part of Spain. Less than 800 km. It would take Deb and I…..forever…..to do that route.

But today, “to qualify as a genuine pilgrim, you must walk the last 100 km, or cycle or ride on horseback the last 200 km of the official route, and carry a record book to be stamped at the refuges (hostels) on the way.” This is exactly what we are doing.
We are beginning our journey from the small town of Sarria, Spain. Approximately 126 kilometres from our destination.
Why you say?
Why you say?
This has been on my bucket list for many years. There is something drawing me to stand on the Camino.
Historically, spiritually, faithfully….I feel it calling me to do it. Interesting that my brain tumour is found less than 3 weeks before our trip. Coincidence? Incentive? Gratitude?
I can't wait.
