Birds, Birds and more Birds in Santiago de Compostela

Five.....count them....five days of sun this week!!!!
Not complaining, but it has rained for a month....and no sign of sun.
We decided to get out as much as possible to enjoy every minute of it.
Thus....back to see my wee birds.

Below and above, I believe this one to be a Cayuga Duck.  It's colouring was iridescent greens and blacks.  These ducks are apparently quite docile.  This wee one let me get right beside it before heading back to the pond.  Stunning.

A duck sitting on a rock in the pond.  Gave the illusion of walking on water.

Pekin or White Duck hanging out with it's buddy.
These ducks in this pond are all used to people.  I read that Pekin Ducks make great pets...following their owners around like pet dogs with a very nice temperament.

A gaggle of Chinese Swan Geese....spying someone with food.
These are domestic geese descended from the wild Swan Goose.
They can be white or brown.
Check out the very interesting knob on their beaks?

A female Chinese Goose can lay 50-60 eggs in a breeding season which is from February to June.
Some have reported up to 100 eggs in that time.
The knob located on the white and brown Chinese Geese is used to differentiate between males and females.  As babies, it takes some time for it to become distinct enough to identify the gender.

The Mallards never moved when all the ducks headed to get food.  They actually went to sleep?
Patience Canadians...so proud.

The Chinese Geese eating right out of this man's hand.

Below it is possible to spot the male and females, somewhat.
The brown Chinese Goose in the bottom left has a bigger knob (lol) than the brown ducks around it.
As well, the white Chinese Geese joining them are younger or female as their knobs are not very distinct.

Hiding from the Paparazzi.

There are many pigeons here at the pond, but since there is such competition for the bread (which by the way is terrible for birds), they head up to the trees to eat the berries.

Bird watching in the middle of a city....who knew?
