Green Space In Santiago de Compostela

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada...but not necessarily in Spain.
During the Spanish Civil War, Germany and Italy supported Francisco Franco ( General and Politician who ruled Spain from 1939-1975).
Thus during WWII Franco stated that his country would remain 'neutral' during the war, but changed that status a number of times.  He at times sent volunteer troops to Germany to fight, only, against the Soviets Union, not the Allies.
But he also sent his troops to the Pyrenees, which bordered Spain and France to protect them from the  invading Germans when France was occupied..
As a result, Spain was not invited to join the United Nations after WWII.  As a matter of fact, until the mid 1950's it was isolated by many countries.
Quite interesting.

So....having shared all that, Deb and I thought we would locate a Plaza where we are meeting a tour group on Wednesday.  While we were wandering and exploring we came to a huge Green Space Park with views of the Historic Town.

We wandered and inhaled the fresh air.....

Admired the statues....

.....the flowers....

Everything again is so incredibly green.

Found a new pet.....

Found old friends....

Deb made a friend.

Views of the Historic Town.

These figurines are a tourist delight to photograph and do selfies.
They were actual real people who were sisters, Maruxa and Coralia Fandino.
At 2pm everyday they would do a walkabout dressed in elaborate colours of clothing...everyone knew them and they were loved.

There are murals with their lightness as well as many different postcards all around the city.

A keyhole photo I tried out.
I LOVE it.

I also spied a Spice Shop on our way home.
So many smells and brilliant colours.

Dates on the vine.

Me and some of my peers.

All alone in a big city....how can this be?

A perfect day....ending with a lovely photo of Deb and I in the park with the Cathedral in the background....even with windblown hair and all.
Feeling grateful.
