Off To Market We Go

The sun is peeking out from behind rain clouds on this day.  We actually don't need anything from the outdoor market, but it is fun to wander and people watch.

And doggie watch too.

I am loving the fantastic fur coat (hopefully not real) the elegant woman below is wearing proudly on this day.

The Christmas lights are going up!!!!!
In Spain.

As we make our way through to the market there is always something new to see.
A group of Camino walkers arriving at the Cathedral.
Some walkers are in professional tours which pick up your bag, delivery it to the next stop, arrange all the accommodations, taking all the guess work out of it.
Something to think about if I do more.....of the Camino.

A key hole shot of this 'built in' vase in a stone archway at the Post Office building?
It is probably 4 feet tall!
Very neat.

We have arrived at a very busy market today.
I love the vibe of this place.
Not many tourist here.

The farmer at this kiosk set these gourds up like this.
I think they look like swans.

This little lady is quite animated with her customers.
Deb tried to get her photo but we try to be respectful and quietly get shots.....but I think she didn't want her photo taken.
I am going back to buy a cabbage from her next Saturday.

Anyone for some very, very fresh fish?

Here I am bundled up as it is cold today, purchasing a big cabbage and potatoes from these two lovely ladies.  One huge cabbage and 7 big potatoes cost my less than 3 euros....maybe $5....altogether!

My favourite kind of cheese that I purchased when we first arrived.
This family makes it fresh for the market.

Christmas lights and decorations are going up everywhere!!!!
We will have to stay out when it's a bit darker to check it out.

Love these people...they are so kind and social.

Done for the day....she is heading home.

This is the Plaza just outside of the market.
When we get to the church at the end, we turn right.

Birds just have no respect for the statues.  Can you imagine this little guy having lunch on your head?

Strolling the narrow streets....trying to get lost.

Lunch is served!!!  Lol.

Musicians along the way.

Above the doors of buildings and churches, there are such neat stone or wood plaques/signs.
I think this one looks ominous.

Incredible ivy taking over this ancient wall.
We actually haven't explored this part of the city....to the right of the Cathedral....but soon.

No explanation needed here.
Above a door of a church, the Virgin Mary, Baby Jesus and Joseph.

Hungry now.....These little cones of cured meats were in a store front window of a butcher.
I've been wanting to try them.
Perfect for eating while still exploring.

Below is also cured meats but cut from the leg of pork very thinly.
I love this stuff.......

...Deb....not so much.

Thought this was cute.  Christmas lights going up around ancient statues.
The old and the new.
The statue of a man holding the 'celestial sphere' or the heavens is usually 'Atlas'.  I cannot find this particular one, but the myth of Atlas is that his punishment, by Zeus, for fighting with the Titans against the Olympians, was to carry the 'heavens' on his shoulders for eternity.
There is more to the story regarding Atlas trying to trick Hercules into carrying it for him.....but that's another story.

Need some sweets.
Deb thought this was a donut.....not that we eat a lot of donuts....never....but it looked good.

But it is not a donut....it's flaky like a pastry croissant.

Our lovely waitress brought this over for us to try.
They never serve you coffee without a wee 'free' treat along side.

A great day...the sun held off...but guess what?
It's starting to rain.....home we go.
